April 12, 2005 – Phil Moser, National Sales Manager for Advanced Driver Training Services, Inc. (ADTS), recently addressed a crucial driver safety topic as a speaker at the 2005 National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA) Fleet Management Institute, (FMI) held April 9 -12, 2005 in Grapevine, Texas.
Moser’s conference session, titled “What Has Your Driver Been Up To? The Importance of MVR Checks and Driver Safety,” drew over 100 attendees. The session explored the role of regularly scheduled driver record checks as part of a comprehensive driver safety program, to help reduce the liability exposure, negligent entrustment claims, high costs, and personal injury associated with business vehicle crashes.
Moser quantified the risk of business vehicle crashes, noting that they account for more U.S. worker deaths than any other single cause. He offered guidelines on how and when to conduct driver record checks, the warning signs to look for, effective ways to quantify and assess each driver’s risk level, and appropriate safety interventions for each risk level. He concluded the session with a review of the five key elements of an effective driver safety culture.
Moser regularly serves as a guest speaker for trade groups such as the Risk & Insurance Managers Society (RIMS), the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), the American Fleet Leasing Association (AFLA), and the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA). Prior to assuming his current position in 1994, he spent six years as a driver safety instructor with ADTS. A graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, Moser was an accident investigation and reconstruction specialist with the Lower Providence (PA) Police Department for 11 years before joining ADTS. He is a member of ASSE and NAFA, and serves as Chair of Safety and Maintenance for the NAFA New Jersey Chapter.
